Why a Calculators Hub?

Archery search intent is narrow. Most archers do not arrive at a calculator page looking for a complete physics simulation — they arrive with one question: “what spine arrow do I shoot?”, “is my FOC high enough for broadheads?”, “how many ft-lbs does my arrow carry?”, “what is my draw length?”, or “how fast will my bow shoot this arrow?”. A single multi-parameter tool can technically answer all of these, but it forces the user to fill in five fields to get one number they actually care about. This hub takes the opposite approach: eight standalone core tools plus five selector hubs, each built around a single question, each requiring only the inputs that question actually needs.

The homepage Arrow Speed Calculator remains the flagship tool on this site — it is the only one that runs the full IBO 5-parameter correction stack and reports speed, momentum, and kinetic energy together with eight switchable units on every input and output field. The seven standalone calculators indexed on this hub exist for archers who already have a single number in hand (a known arrow weight, a known speed, a known wingspan, a measured balance point) and want a single recommendation back without filling out the rest of the form. Each tool loads in a fraction of a second, runs entirely in your browser, requires no sign-up, and sends no data to a server.

The eight core tools are organized into three functional categories below — Selection & Sizing Tools for archers deciding what to buy or cut, Performance & Energy Tools for archers predicting how a build will fly and penetrate, and Balance & Build Tools for archers planning a finished arrow component-by-component. The five selector hubs (Bow Draw Weight, Crossbow Ballistic, Compound Bow Arrow Chart, Easton Arrow Selector, Gold Tip Arrow Calculator) sit alongside as brand- and bow-type-specific deep dives — they reuse the same spine / draw-weight logic but narrow it to a single brand or bow class so an archer who already knows “I shoot a compound bow” or “I want Easton” can skip the brand-agnostic chart. Scroll the page top to bottom for the complete overview, or jump straight to the tool you need from the Featured Calculators grid. Every tool links back to this hub through the breadcrumb navigation, and every tool page links out to its sibling tools through a shared cross-link control at the bottom — so you can move between the Speed, Spine, FOC, Weight, Trajectory, Kinetic Energy, and Draw Length tools without backtracking to the homepage.

Tool Categories

Every calculator on the site falls into one of three functional categories. Selection & Sizing tools answer “what do I buy?” or “what do I cut to?” before an arrow exists. Performance & Energy tools answer “how will it fly?” or “will it penetrate?” after the build is on paper. Balance & Build tools break a finished arrow into components and judge whether the build is balanced and safe. The five selector hubs (Bow Draw Weight, Crossbow Ballistic, Compound Bow Arrow Chart, Easton Selector, Gold Tip Selector) sit alongside the Selection & Sizing category — they answer the same “what do I buy?” question but narrow it to a single brand or bow type. Most archers use one tool from each category in sequence — pick a spine, build the components, then verify the energy — rather than running all thirteen independently.

🔩
Category A

Selection & Sizing Tools

Tools that tell you which arrow or which bow setup to buy. They take a few body or bow measurements and return a single recommendation — the right spine number, the right arrow length, the right draw length. Use these before you place an order or cut a shaft.

🏹

Arrow Speed Calculator

Homepage — /#calculator · Performance & Energy

Use this when you want the most complete picture of how a bow/arrow combination will perform. It is the only tool that runs the full IBO 5-parameter correction stack — draw length, draw weight, arrow weight, and string accessory weight — and reports the real-world speed you should expect at the chronograph, not the marketing-box number. Eight units are switchable on every input and output field, so you can read the same result in fps, mph, m/s, km/h, knots, ft/min, cm/s, or mm/s.

Inputs

  • ▸Bow IBO Rating (fps)
  • ▸Draw Length (in/cm/mm)
  • ▸Peak Draw Weight (lb/kg)
  • ▸Arrow Weight (gr/g/oz)
  • ▸Additional String Weight (gr)

Outputs

  • ▸Arrow Speed (fps/mph/m/s/km/h/knots)
  • ▸Momentum (slug·ft/s)
  • ▸Kinetic Energy (ft-lbs/J)
Open on homepage →
🔩

Arrow Spine Chart

Inner page — /arrow-spine-chart · Selection & Sizing

Use this before you buy arrows. The wrong spine is the single most common cause of poor groups and broadhead flight issues — too stiff and the arrow leaves the rest pointing left, too weak and it sprays right. This tool cross-references your draw weight, draw length, and bow type against the manufacturer spine charts of five major brands so you can order with confidence and skip the trial-and-error cycle of buying three different spines to find one that tunes.

Inputs

  • ▸Draw Weight (lb)
  • ▸Draw Length (in)
  • ▸Bow Type (compound/recurve/traditional)
  • ▸Point Weight (gr)

Outputs

  • ▸Recommended static spine (e.g. 300, 340, 400, 500)
  • ▸Brand-by-brand match (Easton, Gold Tip, Victory, Black Eagle, Carbon Express)
Open Spine Chart tool →
💥

Arrow Kinetic Energy Calculator

Inner page — /arrow-kinetic-energy-calculator · Performance & Energy

Use this when you already know your arrow weight and speed and want to verify the build is ethical for the game you intend to hunt. The tool tags your kinetic energy result against widely-accepted thresholds — roughly 25 ft-lbs for small game, 40–60 ft-lbs for medium game like deer, and 60+ ft-lbs for heavy game like elk — and reports momentum alongside KE so you can judge penetration potential on heavy-bone shots, where momentum matters more than raw energy.

Inputs

  • ▸Arrow Weight (gr/g/oz)
  • ▸Arrow Speed (fps/mph/m/s/km/h)

Outputs

  • ▸Kinetic Energy (ft-lbs/J/cal)
  • ▸Momentum (slug·ft/s)
  • ▸Game-class recommendation (small/medium/heavy)
Open Kinetic Energy tool →
📐

Bow Draw Length Calculator

Inner page — /bow-draw-length-calculator · Selection & Sizing

Use this before you buy a bow or cut arrows. A 1-inch draw length error shifts arrow speed by roughly 10 fps and throws off every sight pin you own. The tool runs three accepted methods side by side — wingspan ÷ 2.5 (most common), ÷ 2.6 (some archers prefer), and the AMO method — and converts the result into arrow length recommendations for compound, recurve, and traditional bows, which each want different overhang past the rest.

Inputs

  • ▸Wingspan (in/cm)
  • ▸Measurement method (÷2.5, ÷2.6, AMO)

Outputs

  • ▸Draw Length (in/cm)
  • ▸Arrow Length by bow type (compound/recurve/traditional)
  • ▸Sight-pin starting reference
Open Draw Length tool →

Arrow Spine Calculator

Inner page — /arrow-spine-calculator · Selection & Sizing

Use this when the static spine chart is not enough. The Spine Chart gives you the manufacturer lookup answer; this calculator adds dynamic spine correction — draw length, arrow length, point weight, and cam type each shift the dynamic spine by a measurable number of grades, and a 400 static shaft can behave like a 380 or a 420 depending on your build. Run it after the Spine Chart when you are tuning broadheads and need to know whether to step up or step down a spine, not just what the box recommends.

Inputs

  • ▸Bow Type (compound/recurve/traditional)
  • ▸Peak Draw Weight (lb)
  • ▸Draw Length (in)
  • ▸Arrow Length (in)
  • ▸Point Weight (gr)
  • ▸Cam Type (single/binary/hybrid/cam-less)

Outputs

  • ▸Recommended static spine (e.g. 300, 340, 400, 500)
  • ▸Dynamic correction grades (±0.5–2 spine grades)
  • ▸Stiffness verdict (correct / too stiff / too weak)
  • ▸Copyable build card

Arrow FOC Calculator

Inner page — /arrow-foc-calculator · Balance & Build

Use this before you tune broadheads or chase a sight-pin mystery. FOC (Front of Center) is the single most under-measured number in archery — target arrows want 10–15%, hunting arrows 15–20%, and broadheads start to fly erratically below 10%. The calculator runs in two modes: enter component weights to plan a build, or enter a measured balance point to verify an existing arrow. Either way you get the FOC%, the window the build falls in, and a clear verdict on whether to add a brass insert, step up point weight, or trim vanes.

Inputs

  • ▸Arrow total length (in)
  • ▸Mode: Component Weights or Balance Point
  • ▸Shaft GPI (gr/in)
  • ▸Point / Insert / Nock / Vane weights (gr)
  • ▸OR measured balance point from nock groove (in)

Outputs

  • ▸FOC% with one-decimal precision
  • ▸Balance-point distance from nock groove
  • ▸Window classification (low / target / hunting / extreme)
  • ▸Total grain count (component mode)

📏

Arrow Weight Calculator

Inner page — /arrow-weight-calculator · Balance & Build

Use this when you want the full build math, not just a single number. The homepage Speed Calculator takes arrow weight as one input; this calculator disassembles that number into shaft, point, insert, nock, vanes, and glue — so you can see which component is pushing you out of the IBO 5 gr/lb floor or making the build too heavy for your draw weight. Pairs with the Speed Calculator: build here, then feed the total grains into Speed to see the fps impact.

Inputs

  • ▸Shaft model & GPI (Easton/Gold Tip/Victory drop-down)
  • ▸Cut length (in)
  • ▸Point weight (gr)
  • ▸Insert type — aluminum or brass (gr)
  • ▸Nock weight (gr)
  • ▸Vane count × vane weight (gr)
  • ▸Glue weight estimate (gr)
  • ▸Bow draw weight (lb)

Outputs

  • ▸Total arrow weight (gr) with component-by-component breakdown
  • ▸Grains-per-pound ratio (gr/lb)
  • ▸IBO 5 gr/lb safety check (pass / fail + grains short)
  • ▸Build weight band (Light / Medium / Heavy / Ultra-Heavy)

Arrow Trajectory Calculator

Inner page — /arrow-trajectory-calculator · Performance & Energy

Use this when you are setting sight pins, gap-shooting, or judging whether a long shot is ethical. The homepage Speed Calculator gives you fps at the bow; this calculator runs that fps forward in time and tells you exactly where the arrow will be at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 yards — drop, drift, apex, flight time. Run it after the Speed Calculator: get your real fps first, then bring it here to translate speed into pin gaps and wind holds.

Inputs

  • ▸Arrow speed (fps)
  • ▸Arrow weight (gr)
  • ▸Target distance (yd)
  • ▸Crosswind speed (mph)

Outputs

  • ▸Drop at distance (in)
  • ▸Wind drift at distance (in)
  • ▸Apex height above line of sight (in)
  • ▸Flight time (s) + launch angle compensation (deg)
  • ▸20–70 yd sight-pin compensation table

Bow Draw Weight Calculator

Selector hub — /bow-draw-weight-calculator · Selection & Sizing

Use this before you buy a bow or step up poundage. The Draw Length tool tells you how long to pull; this one tells you how heavy to pull. It cross-references age band, build, experience, and target game against state-DNR legal minimums and IBO standards, then returns a compound peak and a recurve equivalent in the same render — so you can shop both bow classes side by side. Pairs with the Spine Chart: read poundage here, then carry it into the spine lookup.

Inputs

  • ▸Age band (child/youth/teen/adult/master/senior)
  • ▸Gender (male/female)
  • ▸Experience (beginner/intermediate/advanced)
  • ▸Target game (target/small/deer/elk/bear/moose)
  • ▸Bow type (compound/recurve/traditional)

Outputs

  • ▸Recommended peak draw weight (lb)
  • ▸Recurve vs compound poundage split
  • ▸Species ethical-minimum check (deer/elk/bear/moose)
  • ▸Arrow grain floor (5 gr/lb × draw weight)

🏹

Crossbow Ballistic Calculator

Selector hub — /crossbow-ballistic-calculator · Performance & Energy

Use this when you are shooting a crossbow, not a vertical bow. Bolts are short, stiff, and fast — the regular Arrow Trajectory Calculator assumes a 28″ arrow and a 250–450 grain shaft, neither of which holds for a 20″ 400-grain bolt. This tool runs the three numbers a crossbow hunter actually needs (speed, drop, KE) in one render, and tags the KE result against the same deer/elk/bear thresholds as the vertical Kinetic Energy tool so you can judge ethical shot range.

Inputs

  • ▸Crossbow IBO rating (fps)
  • ▸Bolt weight (gr)
  • ▸Target distance (yd)
  • ▸Zero distance (yd)

Outputs

  • ▸Bolt speed at release (fps)
  • ▸Drop at distance (in)
  • ▸Kinetic energy at impact (ft-lbs)
  • ▸Crossbow vs compound speed/KE comparison

Compound Bow Arrow Chart

Selector hub — /compound-bow-arrow-chart · Selection & Sizing

Use this when you already shoot a compound bow and want a compound-specific recommendation, not a general chart. The Arrow Spine Chart compares every brand for every bow type; this one narrows to compound-only shafts and pairs each model with the cam type and point weight it likes. Run it after the Spine Calculator when the static chart says a spine is borderline — the compound chart will tell you which exact shaft model to buy in that spine.

Inputs

  • ▸Peak draw weight (lb)
  • ▸Draw length (in)
  • ▸Cam type (single/binary/hybrid/cam-less)
  • ▸Target use (target/hunting/3D)
  • ▸Point weight (gr)

Outputs

  • ▸Recommended shaft model + spine (e.g. Easton Axis 400, Gold Tip Hunter 340)
  • ▸Component pairing (insert/point/vane)
  • ▸Compound-specific dynamic-spine note
  • ▸Build verdict (matched / step up / step down)

Easton Arrow Selector

Selector hub — /easton-arrow-selector · Selection & Sizing

Use this when you have already decided on Easton and want a deep, single-brand lookup. The general Spine Chart returns a spine number across five brands; this selector walks the Easton catalog series-by-series (XX75, Axis, Bowhunter, 6.5, Carbon, Aluminum), explains what each series is built for, and points to the exact model for your draw weight. Includes the Easton PDF chart link and an interpretation of the 5.0 / 300 spine naming convention.

Inputs

  • ▸Easton series (XX75/Axis/Bowhunter/6.5/Carbon/Aluminum)
  • ▸Draw weight (lb)
  • ▸Bow type (compound/recurve/traditional)
  • ▸Use case (target/hunting/small-game)
  • ▸Point weight (gr)

Outputs

  • ▸Easton model match (XX75 Tribute, Axis 400, Bowhunter 500, 6.5 ST 340)
  • ▸Static spine for the model
  • ▸Hunting-shaft recommendation by species
  • ▸PDF chart link & 5.0 300 spine interpretation

Gold Tip Arrow Calculator

Selector hub — /gold-tip-arrow-calculator · Selection & Sizing

Use this when you have already decided on Gold Tip and want a brand-only recommendation. Replicates the logic of Gold Tip's online builder — enter your draw weight and length, get back the exact Hunter/Traditional/Velocity/Trip model and spine — without leaving the site. Run it after the Spine Chart if you want to cross-check the brand-agnostic answer against the Gold Tip-specific one.

Inputs

  • ▸Gold Tip series (Hunter/Traditional/Velocity/Trip)
  • ▸Peak draw weight (lb)
  • ▸Draw length (in)
  • ▸Arrow length (in)
  • ▸Point weight (gr)

Outputs

  • ▸Gold Tip model match (Hunter 340, Traditional 400, Velocity 500, Trip 300)
  • ▸Static spine + builder logic
  • ▸Draw-weight × length recommendation table
  • ▸Component pairing for the matched shaft

400 Spine Arrows

Inner page — /400-spine-arrows · Selection & Sizing

Use this when you shop for the most common entry spine and want the grade checked, not just assumed. The tool rules on the classic borderline cases — whether a 60 or 70 pound bow still belongs on 400, what a 28-inch cut does to dynamic spine, and when recurve and traditional setups can run 400 — then splits the model field into budget and premium tiers. Run it before the 400 buying guide to narrow the field, and after the Spine Calculator if your setup sits on a grade boundary.

Inputs

  • ▸Draw weight (lb)
  • ▸Draw length (in)
  • ▸Point weight (gr)
  • ▸Flight symptom picker (tail-left / tail-right / porpoising)

Outputs

  • ▸400-grade fit verdict (45-60 lb compound / 40-55 lb recurve)
  • ▸340 or 500 correction when 400 is wrong
  • ▸60/70 lb edge-case rulings
  • ▸28-inch cut adjustment

500-1400 Spine Arrows

Inner page — /500-spine-arrows · Selection & Sizing

Use this for the light end of the spine ladder that most charts skip: recurves from 20 to 50 lb, youth bows, barebow entries, and traditional feathered arrows. The decision tree walks bow type → poundage → arrow length and returns the grade band (500 through 1400) with the draw-weight window each grade serves, plus safety guardrails for youth bows that must never be over-spined or over-weighted.

Inputs

  • ▸Bow type (recurve/traditional/youth compound)
  • ▸Draw weight (lb)
  • ▸Arrow length (in)
  • ▸Fletching intent (vaned or feathered)

Outputs

  • ▸Grade band on the 500-1400 ladder
  • ▸Draw-weight band per grade
  • ▸Feathered traditional pairing
  • ▸PSE Razorback pick
  • ▸Youth safety check

Brand Spine Chart Decode

Inner page — /arrow-brands-spine-chart · Selection & Sizing

Use this before ordering budget or import arrows whose published charts are incomplete or inconsistent. Big-box and e-commerce house brands label spines by their own conventions — the same '350' can measure anywhere from 0.320 to 0.380 inches of deflection across factories. This decoder maps each brand's number to the AMO standard, flags the brands with known factory drift, and tells you when the only trustworthy answer is a 1.94 lb deflection self-test.

Inputs

  • ▸Brand (Blackout, Bloodsport, Beman, Sirius, Skylon, Musen, Sanlida & more)
  • ▸Marked spine number OR measured AMO deflection

Outputs

  • ▸AMO/ASTM equivalent spine
  • ▸Safe bow-weight band
  • ▸Same-number factory-drift warning
  • ▸When to self-test with the 1.94 lb method

Use-Case Pathways by Archer Profile

Most archers do not need all thirteen tools — they need two or three in a specific order. These six pathways map the most common archer profiles to the calculators that solve their problem and the sequence in which to run them.

🌱

First-Time Bow Buyer

Draw Length → Spine Chart

  • 1Measure your wingspan and run the Bow Draw Length Calculator to confirm your draw length across all three methods.
  • 2Take that draw length plus your planned draw weight into the Arrow Spine Chart to find the correct spine number for your bow type and brand.
  • 3Order arrows cut to the recommended arrow length for your bow type, with the matched spine number printed on the shaft.
🎯

Target Archer Tuning Pins

Speed Calculator → Kinetic Energy

  • 1Run your bow and arrow through the homepage Arrow Speed Calculator to get the real-world fps — not the IBO marketing number.
  • 2Take that speed plus your arrow weight into the Kinetic Energy Calculator to verify your build is well above the small-game floor even on a slow day.
  • 3Use the resulting fps to set or verify your 20/30/40/50-yard sight pin gaps. A 10 fps error moves your 50-yard pin by several inches.
🏹

Bowhunter Pre-Season Check

Speed → Kinetic Energy → Spine recheck

  • 1Chronograph three shots, then run the homepage calculator with your real IBO inputs and compare against the chronograph reading to verify your corrected IBO rating.
  • 2Feed your real speed and arrow weight into the Kinetic Energy Calculator to confirm you clear the ethical threshold for the game you are hunting (25 ft-lbs small / 40–60 ft-lbs medium / 60+ ft-lbs heavy).
  • 3Re-check your arrow spine against the Spine Chart if you have changed point weight or added a brass insert for FOC tuning — a heavier point weakens dynamic spine.
🔧

Arrow Builder From Scratch

Draw Length → Spine → Speed → KE

  • 1Confirm draw length with the Draw Length Calculator before ordering shafts — a wrong draw length means a wrong arrow cut length and a wrong spine recommendation downstream.
  • 2Pick the static spine with the Spine Chart based on draw weight, draw length, and bow type, then choose a shaft model with the right GPI for your target total weight.
  • 3Run the Speed Calculator with the planned total grain count to predict speed, then run the Kinetic Energy Calculator to confirm the build clears your game-class threshold.
🪶

Broadhead Tuner

FOC → Weight → Spine Calculator

  • 1Run the Arrow FOC Calculator with your current build — component weights mode for a planned arrow, balance-point mode for one you can finger-balance. If FOC is below 10% for hunting or below 8% for target, the broadheads will not group.
  • 2Take the total grain count from the FOC calculator into the Arrow Weight Calculator and verify the build still clears the 5 gr/lb IBO floor — adding a brass insert for FOC also adds 50+ grains, which can flip the build from borderline-fast to deliberately heavy.
  • 3Finally, run the Spine Calculator with your new point weight and arrow length — a heavier point weakens dynamic spine, so the static spine number may need to step down one grade to keep the broadhead tracking straight.
🎯

Long-Range Pin Setter

Speed → Trajectory

  • 1First, run the homepage Arrow Speed Calculator with your real IBO inputs to get the verified fps your arrow leaves the bow — not the box rating. A 10 fps error moves the 50-yard drop by 6+ inches, so this number has to be real, not marketing.
  • 2Take that fps plus your arrow weight into the Arrow Trajectory Calculator and run it at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 yards — the simulator returns drop, wind drift, apex, and flight time at each distance, plus the launch-angle compensation you need to set each pin.
  • 3Set each sight pin to the calculated drop at its distance, then re-run the Trajectory Calculator with a 10 mph crosswind to know how much to hold into the wind on a gusty day at the longer pins.

Methodology & Accuracy

Every calculator on this site runs on published, peer-reviewed archery formulas — not approximations. The homepage Arrow Speed Calculator implements the IBO 5-parameter correction stack: a base IBO rating adjusted by ±10 fps per inch of draw length away from 30 inches, −2 fps per pound of draw weight below 70 pounds, −1 fps per 3 grains of arrow weight above the 5-grains-per-pound baseline, and −1 fps per 3 grains of string accessory weight. The Kinetic Energy Calculator uses the standard archery formula KE = (arrow grains × v²) / 450,240 to return foot-pounds, with momentum computed as p = arrow mass × velocity in slug·ft/s.

The Bow Draw Length Calculator implements the three accepted wingspan-to-draw-length conversions: the popular ÷2.5 method, the slightly stiffer ÷2.6 method favored by some target archers, and the AMO (Archery Manufacturers Organization) standard. The Arrow Spine Chart aggregates manufacturer-published deflection tables from Easton, Gold Tip, Victory, Black Eagle, and Carbon Express, then cross-references them against draw weight, draw length, bow type, and point weight to produce a brand-by-brand recommendation. Where two methods disagree, the tool surfaces both numbers so you can make an informed choice.

All unit conversions use exact constants rather than rounded approximations: 1 fps = 0.3048 m/s = 0.6818 mph = 1.0973 km/h = 0.5925 knots; 1 grain = 0.0648 grams = 1/7000 pound; 1 ft-lb = 1.3558 joules. When you switch units on any input or output field, the displayed value updates with these exact factors — no rounding to friendly numbers, no precision loss in the conversion step. For tournament or scientific use, prefer the metric outputs (m/s, joules, grams); for everyday archery conversations use the imperial defaults (fps, ft-lbs, grains).

Calculator Pro Tips

Six habits that separate archers who get trustworthy numbers out of these tools from archers who get misleading ones. None of them take more than two minutes; skipping any of them can throw your result off by 5–10 fps or 5–7 ft-lbs.

📏

Measure Inputs — Do Not Guess

Every calculator on this site is only as accurate as its inputs. A 1-inch draw length guess moves the speed result by 10 fps. A 25-grain arrow weight guess moves the kinetic energy result by 5–7 ft-lbs. Spend two minutes with a tape measure and a grain scale before you spend five minutes running numbers you cannot trust.

🔁

Re-run After Every Component Change

Adding a brass insert for FOC tuning shifts total weight forward, which changes speed, kinetic energy, and dynamic spine at the same time. Re-run the Speed Calculator and the Kinetic Energy Calculator after every component swap so your build sheet stays internally consistent — do not just re-check the one number you were tuning for.

🌡️

Account for Cold-Weather Speed Loss

Bow limbs stiffen in cold weather and cam efficiency drops, costing 3–8 fps in freezing conditions versus a 70°F indoor baseline. If you chronograph and calculate in summer but hunt in late autumn, re-run the homepage calculator with a 5 fps downward correction on your IBO rating before doing the ethical energy check for your hunt.

🎯

Cross-Check Two Tools Before Buying

Before you place an arrow order, cross-check the Spine Chart against the Draw Length Calculator — your draw length drives the arrow cut length, and arrow cut length affects dynamic spine. A shorter cut shaft behaves stiffer than the same shaft cut longer. Run both tools and confirm the recommended spine still applies at your final cut length.

⚖️

Verify the 5 Grains Per Pound Floor

Every bow has a minimum safe arrow weight: 5 grains of arrow mass per pound of draw weight. Below that, the bow risks dry-fire-like limb damage. The Kinetic Energy Calculator shows your total grain weight — divide it by your draw weight (or just look at the rule of thumb: 70 lb bow = 350 gr minimum) before you trust any speed result from an ultra-light arrow.

📋

Save Your Inputs As a Build Card

Once you have settled on a build, screenshot or write down the exact inputs you used in each calculator — IBO rating, draw length, draw weight, arrow weight, string weight, and the resulting speed, KE, and momentum. A year later when you want to replicate the build, you will not have to re-derive the numbers from memory or a worn-out box label.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about how the four calculators relate, which one to use first, and how to interpret the results. If your question is about the underlying math rather than the tools themselves, the Guides hub covers the formulas, measurement SOPs, and worked examples in depth.

What is the difference between the Arrow Calculators hub and the homepage calculator?▼

The homepage Arrow Speed Calculator is a single multi-parameter tool that takes five IBO inputs (IBO rating, draw length, peak draw weight, arrow weight, additional string weight) and returns three outputs (speed, momentum, kinetic energy) with eight switchable units on every field. The Calculators hub on this page indexes that multi-parameter tool alongside seven additional standalone tools — the Arrow Spine Chart, the dynamic Arrow Spine Calculator, the Arrow FOC Calculator, the component-level Arrow Weight Calculator, the Arrow Trajectory Calculator, the Arrow Kinetic Energy Calculator, and the Bow Draw Length Calculator — that each answer one focused question with the minimum number of inputs, plus five brand- and bow-type-specific selector hubs (Bow Draw Weight, Crossbow Ballistic, Compound Bow Arrow Chart, Easton Arrow Selector, Gold Tip Arrow Calculator) for archers who already know their brand or bow class. Use the homepage calculator when you want the complete performance picture; use the standalone tools when you have a single specific question; use a selector hub when you want a deep, single-brand or single-bow-type lookup.

Which calculator should I use first?▼

If you are buying a bow or arrows for the first time, start with the Bow Draw Length Calculator — every other recommendation downstream depends on your draw length. If you already own a bow and arrows and want to verify performance, start with the homepage Arrow Speed Calculator to get your real-world fps, then run the Kinetic Energy Calculator to verify the build clears the ethical threshold for your target game. If you are ordering replacement arrows, jump straight to the Arrow Spine Chart with your draw weight and draw length in hand.

Do these calculators work for compound, recurve, and traditional bows?▼

Yes, with one important caveat. The homepage Arrow Speed Calculator and the Arrow Kinetic Energy Calculator work for any bow type because they take arrow speed as a direct input or compute it from IBO-style specifications — recurve and traditional shooters can enter their measured fps directly. The Bow Draw Length Calculator offers separate arrow-length recommendations for compound, recurve, and traditional bows because each style wants different overhang past the rest. The Arrow Spine Chart includes dedicated compound, recurve, and traditional spine matrices with brand-specific recommendations for each.

Are the unit conversions accurate enough for tournament use?▼

Yes. Every unit conversion on the calculators uses exact constants — 1 fps = 0.3048 m/s, 1 fps = 0.6818 mph, 1 grain = 0.0648 grams, 1 ft-lb = 1.3558 joules, and so on. The displayed results are not rounded to friendly numbers, so a 300 fps arrow shows as 90.00 m/s in metric and 204.55 mph in imperial. For tournament or scientific contexts, use the metric outputs (m/s, joules) directly; for general archery conversations use the imperial defaults (fps, ft-lbs, grains).

Why does the Kinetic Energy Calculator show both KE and momentum?▼

Kinetic energy (KE = ½mv²) measures the total energy of motion and is the standard ethical-threshold metric for game class — 25 ft-lbs for small game, 40–60 ft-lbs for medium, 60+ ft-lbs for heavy. Momentum (p = mv) measures mass in motion and resists deceleration through tissue and bone. A heavier, slower arrow can carry the same kinetic energy as a lighter, faster one but more momentum, which means it penetrates deeper on heavy-bone impacts like shoulder blades. The tool reports both numbers so you can evaluate the trade-off rather than chasing raw speed in isolation.

How accurate is the homepage IBO speed prediction?▼

The IBO 5-parameter formula used by the homepage calculator is the same one published in IBO specification documents and used by bow manufacturers. When fed accurate inputs — a real measured draw length, a real chronographed draw weight, a weighed arrow, and the actual string accessory weight — the prediction typically lands within 5–10 fps of a chronograph reading. Larger gaps almost always trace back to an input error: an inflated IBO rating from the box, a draw length rounded to the nearest inch, or string accessories (peep, D-loop, silencers) that were not added to the string-weight field.

Can I use the Spine Chart for crossbows?▼

The Arrow Spine Chart focuses on compound, recurve, and traditional vertical bows. Crossbows use a different spine standard — bolt spine is rated differently and the launch dynamics differ because of the shorter power stroke and heavier projectile. For crossbow spine selection, follow the bolt spine chart published by your crossbow manufacturer. The homepage Arrow Speed Calculator can still estimate crossbow bolt speed if you treat the crossbow like a high-peak-weight compound and enter the correct draw weight and bolt weight, but the spine chart itself is not built for crossbow bolts.

Do I need to install anything or create an account to use these calculators?▼

No. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser with no installation, no sign-up, and no data sent to a server. The math executes client-side in JavaScript, your inputs never leave your device, and you can use the tools offline once the page has loaded. Bookmark any tool page and it will work the same way on your phone at the range as it does on your desktop at home.

Picking the Right Tool

The Arrow Calculators hub exists because archery search intent is narrow. Most archers do not need a complete physics simulation — they need one specific answer, fast, with the minimum number of inputs and a brand-specific or method-specific recommendation back. The eight tools on this site cover the questions archers actually ask: what spine arrow do I shoot, is my FOC high enough for broadheads, how heavy is my finished arrow, where will my arrow be at 50 yards, how many ft-lbs does my arrow carry, what is my draw length, and how fast will my bow shoot this arrow.

Use the homepage Arrow Speed Calculator when you want the most complete picture — five inputs, three outputs, eight switchable units on every field, and the full IBO correction stack that turns a marketing-box number into the real-world fps you should expect at the chronograph. Use the seven standalone tools when you already have one number in hand and want a single recommendation back without filling out the rest of the form. Each tool loads in a fraction of a second, runs entirely in your browser, requires no sign-up, and sends no data to a server.

Bookmark this hub and use it as the starting point every time you build, tune, or buy archery equipment. Every tool page links back here through the breadcrumb, and every tool page links out to its sibling tools through a shared cross-link control at the bottom — so you can move between the Speed, Spine, FOC, Weight, Trajectory, Kinetic Energy, and Draw Length calculators without backtracking to the homepage. If you want to understand the math behind any of these tools in depth, the Guides hub covers every formula, measurement SOP, and worked example on the site.
